| According to investigations, "terrorism" may have played a role in the vehicle explosion on the American-Canadian border bridge in Anatolia. |
On Wednesday, a car explosion on the Rainbow Bridge, which connects Canada and the United States, claimed two lives. However, the possibility that the incident was caused by a bomb explosion was rejected.
The explosion happened at a border crossing between the Canadian province of Ontario and the US state of New York, not far from the well-known Niagara Falls, according to information released by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation on the "X" platform.
The FBI, located in Buffalo, New York, close to Niagara Falls, dispatched detectives with expertise in countering "terrorism."
The FBI field office in Buffalo stated, "That's all we can say at this time; this situation is very ambiguous."
A driver and a passenger were killed in the explosion, according to a source familiar with the preliminary investigations who spoke to Reuters on condition that his identity not be revealed. This suggests that "terrorism" has not yet been ruled out because the accident's circumstances are still unknown.
The individual continued, "Terrorism has not been ruled out because we really have no idea what happened."
A witness said to CBS that he later observed a "fireball" on the bridge and that he saw an automobile "flying at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour (160 km)" as perhaps a result of the explosion.
Images from the border crossing showed a lot of police presence along with debris.

On its Facebook page, Niagara Falls, an American city, announced that the Rainbow Bridge is closed "until further notice."
The governor of New York State, Kathy Hackol, declared on the X platform that the FBI's Counterterrorism Operations Task Force is collaborating with the State Police to "monitor all points of entry into New York."
On the eve of the extended Thanksgiving holiday, hundreds of kilometers south, Eric Adams, the mayor of New York City, declared that the city's security would be "strengthened."
Additionally, the White House declared that it has notified US President Joe Biden about the blast.
In his speech to Parliament, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau mentioned a "very dangerous situation," although he did not specify if the initial indications pointed to a "terrorist" act or perhaps an accident.
"It is obvious that the area around Niagara Falls is extremely dangerous. "There are still many questions, and we are trying to get answers as quickly as possible," Trudeau said to the House of Commons following the explosion of a car at the Rainbow Bridge crossing.
