Former US First Lady Rosalynn Carter has died at the age of 96

 Rosalynn Carter, the former first lady of the US, passed away at the age of 96.

CNN) - At the age of 96, former US First Lady Rosalynn Carter passed away at her Georgia home on Sunday.

 

Rosalynn was married for 77 years to 99-year-old Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States and 2002 Nobel Peace Prize laureate.

Through the X platform, the Carter Center declared that Rosalyn had passed away at home.

"Rosalynn was my partner in everything I accomplished," stated Jimmy Carter. When I needed it, she offered me great advice and support. I always felt that someone would love and support me as long as Rosalynn was alive."

Her son Chip Carter stated of his mother, "My mother was an extraordinary first lady, a loving mother, and a great humanitarian in her own right."

He continued: "She was a life of service and compassion and an example to all Americans, and she will be greatly missed not only by our family but by the many people who have better mental health care and access to the resources needed to provide care today."

In addition to advocating for women's rights, Rosalynn Carter was a mental health and healthcare campaigner.
