Breaking News 24) -- As its goals in Gaza change, Israel has informed the US of its intention to "move from a higher level of operational intensity to something a little less intense," the White House announced on Thursday. Netanyahu: Gaza won't be "Hamastan or Fatehistan" in regards to the military campaign in the Gaza Strip.
"The Israelis say they recognise the need to move to a different phase of the fight," White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby told reporters.
"I mean, in any military campaign, when you move to a different set of objectives, it will be achieved through different tactics and operations," Kirby said. "Just a standard for the conduct of military operations."
Refusing to give a timeline for Israel's transition to this next phase, Kirby stated that the Israelis "will decide when and what the least intensive form will be and what that means."
"The United States talked about the importance of moving to less intense operations, and it is clear that we do not want them to do it sooner than that," he said, adding, "We do not dictate conditions and timetables to the Israelis."
We think that "moving, you know, in the near future is the best possible outcome," but they think they can accomplish it safely and successfully.
He cited several visits to the area by US officials, mentioning recent trips to Israel by National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, and Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin, where "officials talked to them about lessons learned in the war and making these kinds of transitions as well." To ask them some tough questions.
